Four People Shot at Howe Community Park – Unauthorized Event Descends into Chaos
On Saturday evening, an unauthorized gathering of hundreds of people at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade section of Sacramento turned violent when an estimated 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the area as deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were working to breaking up the gathering.
The Incident
Just after 6:30 PM, the SCSO was alerted about persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at Howe Community Park in Sacramento. An additional caller reported a possible altercation and subjects running away.
Law enforcement air support was utilized and surveyed the area from above but was unable to locate any ongoing altercation.
Even so, an estimated several hundred attendees had collected at the park for what officials called an unauthorized gathering. Responding deputies positioned themselves around the park, illuminated the area with emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes ordering the crowd to disperse through their vehicle PA systems.
As law enforcement was clearing the area, between 20 and 25 shots filled the night air — sending the crowd scattering in all directions.
Shooting Victims
Four gunshot victims — a woman and three men, each in their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Two victims had injuries classified as immediate, one victim had moderate injuries, and one victim sustained minor injuries. Each of the four victims was in stable condition. Sacramento Metro Fire assisted with on-scene medical triage in the field.
What Was Found at the Scene
Gunfire originated from the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot at the 2200 block. The Home Depot store was placed under temporary lockdown. Over scanner traffic, it was confirmed that a suspect vehicle — a Kia — was intercepted in nearby Solano County with four people in custody.
